Course Overview

Qualification: A Level Courses

  • Students study an entire unit of Criminal law and enjoy the detail of this, particularly the cases we study. This unit also complements the study of Psychology, Sociology, History and Criminology.
  • The Contract unit complements the study of Business, Economics and Accounting and had been found to be relevant when applying for Business and Finance apprenticeships.
  • The Tort unit examines personal liability, which students find fascinating, for example weighing up if an individual has acted negligently and supporting this with case law. This topic complements Sociology, History, RS and Philosophy.
  • Students value the opportunities to debate, discuss and evaluate legal issues in lessons. They get a real sense of satisfaction when they can analyse scenario questions and spot all the correct legal issues.
  • This A level is highly regarded by universities and apprenticeship providers. Studying A level Law also helps learners make an informed decision about whether to pursue a legal apprenticeship or a law degree.
  • The analysis and essay skills developed on A level Law are also valued by universities and we find many of our Law students go onto top tier universities studying a variety of degrees.
  • The old ‘myth’ that A Level Law is not as relevant to a Law degree has now been ‘bust’ by universities themselves, who have found students who study law at A level, already have the skills set and enthusiasm to learn law at a higher level.
  • Outstanding teaching resources.
  • Experienced and successful teaching team.
  • Consistently positive learner feedback. Our law students enjoy the subject and feel it enhances their ability to write extended, well-structured arguments, which is also useful in other subjects.
  • The department has strong links with the University of Law based in Birmingham, with Aston University and the University of Warwick.
  • A study visit to the Crown Court is an opportunity to develop a better understanding of how the law is applied in practice.

Solihull Sixth Form College is a popular choice for A level Law for young people in Solihull and Birmingham.
