13 New Student Council Members — Solihull Sixth Form College

13 New Student Council Members

13 first year learners at Solihull Sixth Form College have been appointed to the Student Council.

The Year 12 learners were selected after making a presentation to Associate Assistant Principal Anisa Lokat-Fanning and Student Development Co-ordinator Tina Champion. Learners explained why they wanted to join the Student Council Executive and what they hoped to achieve for their peers by joining.

Hana Mian, a former learner from King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, has secured the position of Vice Chair of the Student Council Executive. This means she will spend this academic year learning from current Chair and Year 13 learner Daisy Maskell, before taking over as Chair next year. She will also have the important role of Student Governor and sit on the College’s Board of Governors.

Tanisha Jahan, who came to the College from Langley School, takes the role of Deputy Vice Chair, while other learners have taken on roles as Student Voicer Officers, Publicity Officers, Charity Officers, Events Officers, Welfare Ambassadors and Student Ambassadors. The full list of new Student Council members is as follows:

Vice Chair – Hana Mian
Deputy Vice Chair – Tanisha Jahan
Student Voice Officers – Mehvish Mirza, Besmala Elsayed
Publicity Officers – Khadija Sahal, Ubay Egal
Charity Officers – Sara Hadi, Toby Ellinor, Nastehe Egal
Events Officers – Arham Syed, Rose Mackman
Welfare Ambassador – Aparna Akhtar
Student Ambassador – Malhan Wajeeh

Associate Assistant Principal Anisa Lokat-Fanning commented:

“It’s fantastic to see these learners taking in interest in the College community and looking to take responsibility and represent their peers. As members of staff and College leaders, we take a great deal of interest in what our learners think and their views do influence the decisions that are made. Student Council also has an important role to play in fundraising for charity and organising awareness campaigns for the benefit of learners and the wider community.”

The current group of Year 13 learners who make up the Student Council Executive will stay on in their roles for the next term, before taking a back seat to concentrate on their examinations and let Year 12 learners take over.
