Charity Fundraising over £1,000 — Solihull Sixth Form College

Charity Fundraising over £1,000

Staff and learners at Solihull Sixth Form College have been promoting social responsibility this term by raising money for charity and more than £1,000 has been raised so far.

The College’s Student Development team have been working with Student Council to deliver a host of charity and awareness campaigns this term, covering a range of charities. £226.55 was raised for cancer charity Macmillan thanks to a Coffee Morning staged early in the Autumn term. £402.40 was raised for the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Pakistan Flood Disaster appeal, after the devastating rains made millions of people homeless. A further £277.50 was raised for Breast Cancer Research from the Wear It Pink fundraiser. An additional £182.45 was raised for Children in Need.

Student Council, the Health Ambassadors and the Student Development team have also worked together to ensure our learners are fully informed about a variety of issues, including Anti-Bullying, Black History, ADHD Awareness and Stress Awareness. They also brought staff and learners together to celebrate Diwali, Armistice Day and Halloween, raised awareness of World Vegan Day and worked with Urban Heard to deliver a Money Matters Workshop.

Most recently, they have been getting into the festive spirit with their Caring Christmas appeals, including a Selection Box Appeal for the Ardenlea Court Care Home and a Food Bank Appeal for Bethany Food Bank. They also encouraged staff and learners to support Save the Children on Christmas Jumper Day.

Associate Assistant Principal Anisa Lokat-Fanning commented:

“We have such a caring community at Solihull Sixth Form College and it makes me feel so proud to see learners and staff coming together to help those less fortunate than themselves. All the fundraising and awareness events that have happened on campus this term are helping to create a socially responsible community at our College and these are qualities that will stand our learners in good stead for the future.”
