Chemistry Analyst Competition — Solihull Sixth Form College

Chemistry Analyst Competition

Chemistry learners at Solihull Sixth Form College took on the challenge of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Schools Analyst Competition this year and this week they were presented with their certificates.

The Schools’ Analyst Competition enables Year 12 learners to demonstrate and expand on their existing Chemistry aptitude through practical analytical experiments. Each competition aims to provide some tasks which are relatively familiar to the students such as titrations and others which are likely to be unfamiliar, such as chromatographic separations or atomic and molecular spectroscopy.

15 chemists took part in the competition on campus in in College laboratories. They were Amira Ahmed, Barira Ahmed, Anna Bauer, Asiya Begum, Alvaro Cela, Catherine Chen, Syed Hoque, Lili Junghanns, Lauand Mohammad, Keira Morris, Oluwatosin Olalekan, Habib Qureshi, Simran Sagoo, Mohammed Swara and Ibrahim Tyrell.

Curriculum Leader for Chemistry and Applied Science is Simon Windsor. He commented:

“Following the Chemistry Olympiad and the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, our young chemists have been stretched on multiple occasions this year. It is excellent experience for them, not only because they are being exposed to some very advanced Chemistry, but they are also being challenged to think more critically, build their resilience and boost their confidence in their abilities. I am proud of the efforts of the learners who took on this challenge.”
