Radiotherapy Webinar for Medics — Solihull Sixth Form College

Radiotherapy Webinar for Medics

Aspiring medics studying at Solihull Sixth Form College attended a webinar last week to get an understanding about the exciting field of Radiotherapy.

Daniel Blair, a lecturer at the University of Liverpool, delivered the online presentation to A level learners who are part of the College’s Pre-Medical School enrichment programme. This initiative involves weekly sessions geared towards preparing students for a medical application and highlighting related medical disciplines that they may consider as careers.

This masterclass saw young people learn about what Radiotherapy is and what those working in this field actually do, from how the radiation therapy targets cancer tumours to caring for patients and managing their side effects. They were also told about making an application to the University of Liverpool.

Assistant Principal Trevor Irving organised the webinar. He commented:

“We have been working with the University of Liverpool for almost ten years now and their support for our aspiring medics is hugely appreciated. Daniel Blair has delivered this talk in previous years and it is always inspiring to hear his enthusiasm for the work that Radiotherapy does to help cure tumours and lessen pain in cancer patients. Each time he delivers the talk he’s able to talk about advances in radiotherapy care, which is fascinating to hear.”

Upcoming activities for the Pre-Medical School students include a problem-based learning activity with Keele University and a Sepsis masterclass from the University of Leicester. This follows previous seminars with representatives from Aston Medical School and Coventry University.
